The Center for Nursing Leadership is a learning community that begins with a one-year educational "journey toward mastery." The Center’s purpose is to enhance the leadership effectiveness of nurses in executive practice, as well as other nurses who see themselves as leaders in clinical and health care organizations and systems.  Members of the Center for Nursing Leadership are nurse executives, managers, clinicians, researchers, teachers, consultants and entrepreneurs.

Transitioned into a not-for-profit legal entity in July 1999, the Center began five years earlier under the umbrella of the American Organization of Nurse Executives and the Western Network for Healthcare Management. The CNL’s original and source of funding was the Hill-Rom Corporation, a worldwide leader in patient care products.
